DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGY – IS IT ASSOCIATED WITH INCREASED RISK FOR THYROID CANCER DEVELOPMENT?

The risk for thyroid cancer development is not associated with receipt of simple radiography, including dental X-rays.

In contrast, the risk for thyroid cancer development is significantly increased (40 – 80 %) higher in people who received computed tomography (CT) scans to the brain, facial bones, or neck during childhood. In contast, CT to other body parts is not associated with increased risk.
