RADIOLOGY – IS IT ASSOCIATED WITH INCREASED RISK FOR THYROID CANCER
DEVELOPMENT?
The risk for
thyroid cancer development is not associated with receipt of simple radiography,
including dental X-rays.
In
contrast, the risk for thyroid cancer development is significantly increased (40
– 80 %) higher in people who received computed tomography (CT) scans to the
brain, facial bones, or neck during childhood. In contast, CT to other body parts is not associated
with increased risk.
